Union activists and Black Lives Matter activists today issued a call for a general strike / shutdown against racism, with New York’s first Workers Assembly Against Racism taking place on October 17, 2020 at Union Square Park.
“Last night’s debacle makes it clear that neither candidate will stand up to racism,” said Larry Holmes of the Organizing Committee for a Workers Assembly Against Racism.
“And neither have any answers in the struggle against COVID-19,” Holmes continued. “However, athletes, workers and protesters are leading society in the struggle against the twin plagues of COVID and racism.”
“We enthusiastically applaud the righteous call for unions to hold work stoppages and strikes against racism. Our call intends to broaden that movement and invite our entire class, the working class, to participate in whatever way they see fit.”
