On Friday in Detroit — the first large city to ever file for bankruptcy — a judge will decide how much of that city’s treasury big banks get to loot.

Activists with the New York Peoples Power Assembly will protest the Wall Street forces responsible for this theft with a demonstration at the Bank of America offices on Sat , JAN. 4 at 2:30 PM

Because of Detroit’s reliance on subprime-like loans, it now “owes” Bank of America and UBS Warburg — two of the biggest criminal banks in the world — tens of millions of dollars.

But it is the banks who owe Detroit. They are responsible for the subprime housing crisis, that has destroyed so many of Detroit’s houses and neighborhoods.

Banks are also responsible for the draining of hundreds of millions of dollars from NYC’s treasury — in the form of similar loans, debt-service payments, tax breaks and bailouts. Meanwhile, schools are closed, hospitals shut down and essential services cut.

This is all on top of Detroit’s Emergency Manager who is using bankruptcy to loot the pensions of the city’s workers. Wall Street is watching to see how many more cities it can do this in.

The people of New York join our sisters and brothers in Detroit to say:

Cancel Detroit’s (NY’s) Debt! Make the Banks Pay — They Owe Us!

Hands Off Our Pensions!

Save City Services and Assets!

Make the Banks Fund a Jobs Program!
