Gov. Cuomo: Sign SWEAT Bill/Twitter Storm
Support our campaign by posting on your social media… Friday, Dec 27th from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.
Dear Laundry Workers Center Supporter,

The SWEAT bill, A486/2844, passed the New York State legislature in June! It will become law if Governor Cuomo signs it by December 31st.

Under existing law, if a worker is owed money by an employer, it’s really hard to collect any money because employers can easily hide their assets. SWEAT will allow workers to freeze the employer’s assets (called a ‘lien’). This lien is important because it means when workers are cheated out of their pay, they will actually be able to get it back.

The US Department of Labor estimates that up to $1 billion is stolen from workers every year in New York. Time is running out! Governor Cuomo: Sign SWEAT NOW!  Don’t protects criminals and don’t allow them to get away breaking the law.

@NYGovCuomo The SWEAT bill gives workers the tool to hold criminal bosses accountable and the bill is sitting right in front of your desk. What are you waiting for? Are you standing with criminal bosses against working people and law-abiding businesses? #WorkersPower

Criminal bosses are stealing our hard-earned wages. When workers speak out, bosses close and change the name of businesses, transfer their homes and assets and are never held accountable. @NYGovCuomo #Signs

@NYGovCuomo An estimated 1 billon is stolen from workers in NYS every year. The SWEAT bill can stop all this by giving workers and the DOL the tools to recover stolen wages. #SignsTheBillNow

@NYGovCuomo 6 workers from a restaurant worked 85hrs per week & never get paid minimum wage nor overtime. Workers demand the employer and shorty won a default judgment for $240,000. But never get a single penny. SWEAT can change this. Sign it Now!

@NYGovCuomo 9 workers at J&K Floral USA, Inc. won jointly and severally, the liquidated amount of $1,559,352.40 for wage theft in April, 2019. For years workers worked on a very difficult situation. Even tho the court rule in their favor, the employer disappear.

@NYGovCuomo 5 restaurant workers worked as much as 72 hrs/wk and paid as little as $4.17/hr and no OT. Even tho they won a demand they never recovered the stolen wages. @SWEAT @SignItNow

Celestino, worked for 3 years in  Rawsheh Cafe & Restaurant & never got paid minimum wage. He decided to demand the employer for all the bad treatment. In Nov, 2014 the court rule in his favor but after that the employer denied to pay him. @SignsSweat @NYGovCuomo

Thank you,
