Regional March against Racism, Capitalism and Police Terror . FB Event.

Freddie Gray was arrested on April 12, 2015 & died on April 19, touching off protests, marches, & ultimately an uprising by all those who were fed up with racism & police terror. With the rise of the Trump & right-wing movement — virulent racism, anti-woman, anti-immigrant, anti-LGBTQ & anti-worker sentiment & policies have only intensified. We must stay in the streets to continue our call for justice for Freddie Gray & all victims of police killings & abuse; we must unite against racism & bigotry & we need to call out capitalist neglect & demand jobs, housing, education & an end to crushing poverty everywhere. The Baltimore Peoples Power Assembly is calling on people from New York City to North Carolina & everywhere in between to join us on Saturday & to mark this week & the month of April with protests, walk-outs & direct action.

burning confederate flag in Baltimore Rev Witherspoon, Sherelle, David, Steven-1

July 4, 2015: Burn the Confederate Flag:
The Peoples Power Assembly, SCLC, and our friends and allies – are standing together on this 4th of July to dedicate this day to the unfinished revolution – eloquently captured in the slogan – #Black Lives Matter.

Chattel slavery as we know it has been abolished in this country, but that page in history has not been fully and completely turned. The fight to end racist oppression continues, whether its police terror, the new Jim Crow, the failure to pay reparations to Black America, the recent horrific massacre of 9 people in Charleston, South Carolina, or the burning of Black churches

Nothing could illustrate this more clearly than the many vestiges of slavery that continue today from confederate flags to statues and monuments glorifying confederate generals. We ask where the statues are honoring Harriet Tubman and all of the many other Tubman’s.

In Germany all such monuments, including the Nazi swastika and flags have been removed and are banned. But even in a city such as Baltimore, which is close to 70% Black, nine monuments to confederate generals and soldiers abound.

We dedicate today to calling for an end to the war on Black America!

Before we set this confederate flag on fire – we will be reading Maryland’s heroic son, Frederick Douglas’s famous speech:
“What, to the American slave, is your 4th of July?”
